Police have two suspects in custody after a series of smash and grab burglaries at liquor stores.
The Fort Wayne Police Department said the arrests come after a burglary at a New Haven liquor store early Tuesday morning. Police were aware that there had been several similar burglaries recently and set up a position on the likely route of travel from New Haven to Fort Wayne.
Around 4:04 Tuesday morning the department said an officer was behind a speeding van. The van was not stopping and went into a trailer park. While exiting the park, another officer was able to deploy a tire deflation device. The van slowed down until the passenger bailed out and ran away.
Police were able to track one of the people from the vehicle to a wooded area and found the other suspect in the area of Eastrow and Eastway. Inside the van, the department said officers found two totes filled with bottles of alcohol.
Damion Guy and Edward Hope were both taken into custody for questioning.
