Retailer woes continue, but Fort Wayne dodges children's store closure list

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) -

Children's retail giant Gymboree will close about 350 stores in the coming weeks, but the lone Fort Wayne location will not be among them.

The San Francisco-based chain is the latest to announce mass closings in an effort to stay afloat. It also operates Janie and Jack stores.

The company will have more than 900 locations after the stores are shut down. For those stores affected, liquidation begins as early as this week.

Gymboree filed earlier this summer for bankruptcy protection and indicated at the time that hundreds of locations would be shuttered as part of its reorganization plan.

In northeast Indiana, the company operates a store at Jefferson Pointe.

A complete list of the stores marked for closure can be found here. It includes four Indiana stores, in Greenwood, Bloomington, Evansville and Merrillville.
