When looking for a meal in Grabill, a taco stand probably isn't what you'd expect to find. But sure enough, on the corner of Main and Second Street sits a hidden gem. This is Isabel's Tacos, an establishment owned by the Valdes family, serving up fresh Mexican cuisine. And the reason for setting up shop in Grabill?
"Because there's like no Mexican restaurant here, so they wanted to make one, but authentic," says Angela Valdes, translating for Isabel Valdes.
The stand has been in operation for three years, but it's not always sitting in Grabill. You can sometimes find it in Leo Park, or in downtown Fort Wayne for certain events. The menu contains all your favorite Mexican fare. There is also some expansion coming to Isabel's Tacos. Construction is underway for a permanent building on the same corner in Grabill, and it should be ready to open in November. The family already knows what they want to name it.
"Just the same one," says Angela. "Isabel's Tacos."
