Motorcyclist dies after crash Friday morning

UPDATE: A man is dead after a motorcycle vs van crash in Fort Wayne Friday morning.

The Allen County coroner said the man involved in Friday morning's motorcycle vs motor vehicle crash has died. The man has been identified as Erik S. Mollberg, 57 of Columbia City, Indiana. The cause of death for Mollberg has been determined to be blunt force trauma due to motor vehicle crash vs motorcycle and the manner of death is accident.

Mollberg is the 22nd traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2017.


The crash happened around 8:30 Friday morning in the area of Rapp Road and Leesburg Road. Police tell ABC21 the an was heading west on Leesburg Road when it turned left onto Rapp road, pulling in front of the eastbound motorcycle. The vehicles collided.

The motorcyclist was transported from the scene in critical condition. No one in the van was injured. Police report the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
