A Michigan man faces preliminary charges after an armed robbery at a CVS Pharmacy Thursday.
The Angola Police Department said the armed robbery took place at the pharmacy on Wayne street around 1:50 Thursday afternoon. A witness was able to call police and provide details about the robbery, indicating the suspect was still inside.
When police arrived at the scene, police learned the description of the suspect. The department said he was identified as a man in his late forties with short gray hair wearing a dark colored backpack and small handgun. Officers saw the suspect leave and ordered him to stop. The department said the suspect ignored him and deployed a Tazer. He was taken into custody outside the store.
An investigation into the robbery revealed the suspect went to the pharmacy and demanded medication and money, pointing the gun at the pharmacist. The pharmacist complied with his request. The department said officers recovered the medication and money along with a small handgun. Police also learned the suspect was in possession of a stolen vehicle from Clare, Mich. He also had an outstanding Parole warrant from Michigan.
After taking the suspect, identified as Kenneth Baker, 53 of Eaton Rapids, was taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into the Steuben County Jail. He was preliminarily charged with felony robbery, pointing a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also arrested on the parole violation warrant.
As of the time of this report, the robbery remains under investigation. The Angola Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Steuben County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police and Fremont Police Department.
