UPDATE: Child dies after possible drowning on Fort Wayne's southeast side

UPDATE: A young child is dead after a possible drowning over the weekend.

The Allen County Coroner said the child was identified as Delonte Nelson, 2 of Fort Wayne. The cause of death and manner of death for Nelson are pending.

As of the time of this report, the incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

A young child is fighting for life Monday morning after a possible near-drowning outside a house on Fort Wayne's southeast side Sunday night.

It happened on Spatz Avenue. Emergency crews got the call shortly before 10. Initially, a child had been reported missing but was then found in an above-ground pool outside the house.

Few details are available but authorities at the scene last night did tell us that the child was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The age and gender of the child was not released.
