FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA21) - Something new is about to hit the local waterways.
A specially built flat-bottom boat is in Fort Wayne and will be placed on the water this weekend as it nears its inaugural river run.
The sightseeing vessel is 54 feet long and was designed as a throwback to the low-profile barges that once trolled area rivers and canals around the 1840s. It is expected to debut next month.
Buchanan Hauling and Rigging is expected to deliver the vessel just after sunrise on Saturday. The boat will by operated on the St. Marys, St. Joseph and Maumee rivers by the non profit Friends of the Rivers organization.
