A juvenile is being treated for a gunshot would after a police chase Sunday night.
The Indiana State Police said the chase started around 11:10 Sunday night after an Elkhart Police Department officer observed a vehicle violated traffic laws. The chase ended near the area of County Road 20 and County Road 100 in Elkhart County. The vehicle fled from the officer and went into the yard of a private residence where another officer from Norfolk Southern Railroad Police assisted.
The driver attempted to flee when the Norfolk Southern Police officer discharged his weapon, hitting the driver. As of the time of this report, the driver is being treated for a serious but non-lethal injury.
The Indiana State Police is investigating the incident with the cooperation of the Elkhart Police Department and the Norfolk Southern Police Department.
