A Fort Wayne faces preliminary charges after leading police on a chase Wednesday morning.
The Huntington County Sheriff's Department said a deputy spotted a driver speeding on State Road 9. The deputy attempted to stop the driver but they took off at a high rate of speed.
The driver fled from officers through fields, assuming officers would not follow. Officer deployed stop sticks, deflating the front right tire. The driver was eventually boxed in and gave up. The department said officers detected the odor of alcohol on the driver, but he refused any testing. He was transported to Huntington Hospital for evaluation.
The driver, Dalton Ray of Ft. Wayne, was arrested and preliminarily charged with resisting law enforcement, reckless driving, driving while suspended-prior and open container. He is currently being investigated for operating while intoxicated.
