Bluffton Plant closing, 100 employees losing jobs

A company that has been in Bluffton for over 20 years is closing its doors.

The Buckhorn plant, which makes plastic packaging, is shutting down.

Bluffton Mayor Ted Ellis confirmed the closure to ABC21 and says 100 people will lose their jobs.

Ellis said employees didn't have much time to comprehend the decision, as they were just told Monday.

He says he felt blindsided.

"It was sudden and it was a shock to our system. We've been through plant closures before. A lot of times you can see them coming, this one we just didn't see coming," said Ellis.

Ellis says he doesn't know much, only that the company is consolidating operations to another plant.

"When I asked management if there was something we could have done, or could do to keep them here, they said no. That was a decision made elsewhere and we're just at their mercy," said Ellis.
