An Alabama man faces several sexual assault charges after he allegedly raped a woman he met on Tinder.
The Indiana State Police says the arrest comes after troopers were informed a woman took herself to an Evansville-area hospital after allegedly being raped in Huntingburg, Ind. During the investigation, investigators learned days earlier the woman met 23-year-old Jeffrey Scott Vanherreweghe, 23 of Crossville, Alabama through the dating app "Tinder".
Vanherreweghe was working locally installing equipment at a facility for his company and met the woman at the Quality Inn in Huntingburg. After an initial consensual relationship, police say Vanherreweghe allegedly became violent and reportedly performed multiple sexual acts on the woman against her wishes.
The investigators say the woman attempted to scream for help and for him to stop. Her co-workers tried to intervene by knocking on the door and Vanherreweghe allegedly told them to go away. They used a key from the front desk to enter and escorted her away from the room with her belongings.
The department took Vanherreweghe in for an interview and later arrested him for preliminarily charges of rape, criminal confinement and sexual battery.
