Inside look at The Rescue Mission and how it changed one man's life

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA 21) -

Stan Sorrelles has been living at The Rescue Mission for the past 10 months. He's 59 years old now, but at the age of 14 he was already a successful musician playing in Chicago.

However, his life changed at the age of 19 when he started drinking heavily and got involved with drugs. Stan says suicide was constantly on his mind, and he knew he needed help.

Countless relapses and two suicide attempts put Stand in a dark place. His American Dream was all but lost, and he found his way to the front door of The Rescue Mission with a small bag of belongings. He spent one night on a bottom bunk bed with dozens of others just like him, but he knew his time there didn't end after just 12 hours.

Stand decided to stay at the Rescue Mission and get help from the staff. Ten months later, Stan is in Phase 3 of recovery, and couldn't be more proud of the person he's become.
