INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana GOP has elected the founder of a consulting firm to be state's next representative on the Republican National Committee. Anne Hathaway, the founder of Hathaway Strategies, was selected on Wednesday as Indiana's RNC national committeewoman. Hathaway has long been involved in Indiana and national politics. She worked in the George H.W. Bush White House and at the U.S. Treasury Department.
ST. JOHN, Ind. (AP) - A northwestern Indiana town has agreed to pay a former police dispatcher $150,000 to settle her sexual harassment claim against a former police official and town councilman. Attorneys for the Lake County town of St. John and the woman reached the agreement during a federal court hearing. The woman claimed Michael Fryzel sexually touched and verbally abused her before he resigned as a councilman and police sergeant in 2015.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A Senate panel advanced a proposal to eliminate lifetime handgun license fees. But not before Democrats voiced concern over loosening gun laws in the wake of a Florida high school shooting. The bill previously sailed through the House. But Democratic Sen. Tim Lanane of Anderson says "everything has changed" since the fatal shooting of 17 people at the school in Parkland, Florida. The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 7-3 in favor of the bill on Wednesday.
CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) - A woman convicted in the killing and dismemberment of a man in Michigan's Upper Peninsula has pleaded not guilty to charges she later gave her husband a fatal heroin overdose in northwestern Indiana. Thirty-five-year-old Kelly Cochran faces a July trial on murder charges for Jason Cochran's 2016 death in Lake County. Cochran was sentenced last year to life in prison for helping him kill her boyfriend Christopher Regan in 2014.
