COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio lawmakers say the state is using driver's license suspensions as an arbitrary punishment for offenses unrelated to driving while burying people under a pile of fees and fines. The Dayton Daily News reports the legislature is considering multiple bills that could reinstate limited privileges for some suspended drivers and help people avoid steep license reinstatement fees. Reasons for suspensions include skipping a court date, failing to pay child support and dropping out of high school.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police say a woman has been killed and two men critically wounded during a shooting at a Columbus hookah bar. Columbus police have identified the woman fatally shot around 4 a.m. Sunday inside Exhale Hookah Lounge as 26-year-old Kieara Hobbs. The two wounded men are 27-year-old Latrell Davis and 27-year-old Christopher Bivens. Police on Sunday afternoon said Davis remains in extremely critical condition at a Columbus hospital and Bivens is in critical but stable condition.
XENIA, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a small child has survived a rollover crash of a pickup truck that killed two adults in southwest Ohio. The state Highway Patrol says the accident occurred around 5 p.m. on a snow-slicked road in Greene County's Spring Valley Township. The truck hit a sign and then a tree before overturning.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Authorities are cautiously optimistic that a young male deer with a plastic pumpkin stuck on its head for more than a week in central Ohio has finally shed the irritant. The Dispatch reports the Upper Arlington Police Department sent out a tweet Saturday morning that said a resident had found a plastic pumpkin by his deer feeder. A state wildlife officer says there are clues indicating that the deer is finally free of the candy bucket.
